Urooj Malik, Ph.D.

President - CEO

Dr. Malik has over 40 years of experience across the public and private sectors and academia. He is currently an Associate Professor at University Canada West (UCW), where he teaches Sustainability Finance, Economics, Ethics and Leadership in the MBA program. Additionally, he serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of the Philippines, focusing on doctoral research supervision and training programs in Governance, Sustainability and Development Management.

Previously, Dr. Malik was Professor of Practice at Mindanao State University (MSU), and has also been a Distinguished Visiting Professor at De La Salle University and a Visiting Fellow at the University Science Malaysia’s at the Center for Global Sustainability Studies.

His professional journey includes leadership as Chairman and CEO of Hineleban Foundation Inc., a social enterprise in Mindanao, and over 25 years at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and concluded his career as Director for the Southeast Asia Department, supervising a portfolio of US$ 2 billion. He has worked on over 50 projects in more than 15 countries, been an international consultant for various global organizations such as the ADB, EU, The World Bank and UN Agencies, and has chaired various working groups on energy, infrastructure, natural resources and environment. An advocate for sustainable development, Dr. Malik has contributed to significant studies including, among others, “Economics of Climate Change in Southeast Asia”, “Development for Peace – The Case of the Bangsamoro”, and “Innovations in Sustainability Business Models”.

Dr. Malik’s global experience enriches his insights into pressing environmental, socio-economic, and governance challenges. An accomplished author and speaker, He has presented on sustainability at various international forums and has received numerous accolades from government and private institutions across the Asia-Pacific region.

He holds a BS in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, an MS in Mineral and Energy Economics with a concentration in International Business from the University of Arizona, and a Ph.D. in Sustainable Development Management from Selinus University of Sciences and Literature. He has also completed several certificate courses in management including, Management Development Program (MDP) from Cornell University, Leadership and Change Management from INSEAD, Training of Faculty in Peace Education from the University of Notre Dame, and Training of Trainers Program on Sustainable Peace and Inclusive Governance conducted by The Hague Academy for Local Governance.
